0pposites ( विलोम शब्द)–जब एक language (भाषा) का एक word (शब्द) उस ही language के किसी अन्य word से exactly opposite meaning (ठीक विपरीत/विलोम अर्थ) देता है तो उसे Opposite/Antonym (विपरीतार्थक/विलोम) शब्द कहते हैं। Formation of Opposites/Antonyms (विपरीतार्थकविलोम शब्द बनाने के तरीके) (1) अंग्रेजी भाषा के कुछ निश्चित parts of speech-adjective, adverb, noun and verbs के आगे एक negative prefix (नकारात्मक पूर्वसर्ग) dis-, il-, im-, in-, ir-, non-, un-, आदि लगाकर भी opposites बनाए जाते हैं।
(a) Adjectives से पूर्व Dis- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Able (योग्य) = Disable (अयोग्य)
2. Honest (ईमानदार) = Dishonest (बेईमान)
(b) Adverbs से पूर्व Dis- लगाकर 0pposits बनाना
1. Agreeably (सहमति से) = Disagreeably (असहमति से)
2. Gracefully (शोभापूर्वक) = Disgracefully अशोभापूर्वक)
(c) Noun से पूर्व Dis- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Advantage (लाभ) = Disadvantage (अलाभ/हानि)
2. Belief (विश्वास) = Disbelief (अविश्वास)
(d) Verb से पूर्व Dis- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Connect (जोड़ना) = Disconnect (जोड़ हटाना)
2. Obey ( आज्ञापालन करना) = Disobey (अवज्ञा करना)
(प्रायः। से आरम्भ होने वाले शब्दों से पूर्व लगती
(a) Adjectives से पूर्व – लगाकर opposites बनाना–
1, Legible (सुपाठ्य) = Illegible (दुपट्य)
2. Literate (साक्षर) = Illiterate (निरक्षर)
(b) Noun से पूर्व II- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Legality (वैधता) = Illegality (अवैधता)
2. Legibility (सुपायता) = Illegibility (दुपयता)
(c) Adverb से पूर्व ]]- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Legally (वैधता से) = Illegally (अवैधता से)
2. Legibly (सुपात्यती से)। = Illegibly (दुर्पाठ्यता से)
(प्रायः b, m, p से आरम्भ होने वाले शब्दों से पूर्व लगता है)

1. Mature (परिपक्व) = Immature (अपरिपक्व)
2. Possible (सम्भव) = Impossible (असम्भव)
(b) Adverbs से पूर्व Im- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Politely (नम्रता से) = Impolitely (कठोरता से)
2. Properly (उचित तरीके से) = Improperly (अनुचित तरीके से)
(c) Nouns से पूर्व Im- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Balance (संतुलन) = Imbalance (असन्तुलन)
2. Mortality(नश्वरता) = Immortality, (अनश्वरता)
(a) Adjectives से पूर्व In- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Active (सक्रिय) = Inactive (निष्क्रिय)
2. Correct (सही) = Incorrect (गलत)
(b) Adverbs से पूर्व In- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1, Judiciously (समझदारी से)। = Injudiciously (बेसमझदारी से)
2. Sanely (विवेकपूर्णता से) = Insanely (अविवेकपूर्णता से)
(c) Nouns से पूर्व In- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Attention (ध्यान) = Inattention (ध्यान रहित)
2. Capacity ( क्षमता) = Incapacity (अक्षमता )
(प्रायःr से आरम्भ होने वाले शब्द से पूर्व प्रयोग होता है)

1. Regular (नियमित) = Irregular (अनियमित)
2. Religious ( धार्मिक) = Irreligious (अधार्मिक)

1. Rationally (विवेक से) = Irrationally (अविवेक से)
2. Resolutely (निश्चय से) = Irresolutely (डावांडोल से)
(c) Nouns से पूर्व Ir- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Reverence (आदर) = Irreverence (अनादर)
2. Regularity (नियमितता) = Irregularity (अनियमितता)
(a) Adjectives से पूर्व Non- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1, Contributory (अंशदायी) = Non-contributory (अनअंशदायी)
2. Controversial (विवादी) = Non-Controversial (निर्विवादी)
(b) Adverbs से पूर्व Non- लगाकर 0pposites बनाना
1, Compliance (अनुपालना) = Non-Compliance (अनुपालना नहीं)
2. Attendance (उपस्थिति) = Non-attendance (अनुपस्थिति)
(a) Adjectives से पूर्व Un- लगाकर opposites बनाना–
1. Able (योग्य) = Unable (अयोग्य)
2. Befitting (उपयुक्त) = Unbefitting (अनुपयुक्त)
(b) Adverbs से पूर्व Un- लगाकर opposites बेनाना
1. Arguably (तर्कसाध्यता से) = Unarpuably (तर्कसाध्यता से नहीं)
2. Attractively (बढ़िया ढंग से) = Unattractively (खराब ढंग से)
(c) Verbs से पूर्व Un- लगाकर opposites बनाना
1. Lock (ताला लगाना) = Unlock (ताला खोलना)
2. Fold (तह बनाना) = Unfold (तह खोलना)
(d) Nouns से पूर्व Un- लगाकर 0pp0sites बनाना–
1, Believer (विश्वास करने वाला) = Unbeliever (विश्वास न करने वाला)
2. Truth (सच) = Untruth (झूठ)
(2) अंग्रेजी भाषा के जिन शब्दों के पीछे ‘-ful suffix लगा होता है उनके स्थान पर ‘-less’ suffix का प्रयोग कर opposite words बना सकते हैं, जैसे
1, Careful (सावधान) = Careless (असावधान)
2. Harmful (नुकसानदेह होना) = Harmless (नुकसानदेह न होना)
(3) अंग्रेजी भाषा में किसी एक शब्द का opposite meaning (विपरीत/विलोम अर्थ) देने वाले शब्द opposite words कहलाते हैं। ये संख्या में काफी अधिक हैं। इनमें Adjective, Noun, Verb, Adverb सभी शामिल हैं, जैसे
